A print for ImEx—Trading ideas©. Translating “Import” and “Export” into the four most common alphabets in the world. The jacket produced in China, then shipped to an US retailer was ordered to Zurich for the print before we sent it back to friends all over the world.

Herbert Hoffmann—Tätowiert muss er sein

Herbert Hoffmann is a tattoo legend who – besides running his own tattoo studio in Hamburg – was a collector of everything related to tattoos. “Herbert Hoffman – Tätowiert muss er sein” shows an extensive collection of paper clips from magazines and newspapers in the 60s which Hoffmann collected and arranged in his notebook. The book shows Hoffmanns interest in tattoos within a social context and contains a series of essays by various authors reflecting on this rich and complex source material.

Ohne Rast

Identity for an art exhibition in public areas of Zug, a small city in Switzerland. The exhibited art dealt with the topic of restlessness which can be seen as a problem for people in western affluent societies as well as it is the state of thousands of people escaping from their homeland heading towards Europe. We used Youtube as source for the visual material since it has become a melting pot of various information layers ranging from dramatic reports of refugees in the Mediterean sea to instructions for the perfect vegan protein shake.

Artist book accompanying Jan Hostettlers first institutional solo show. Instead of an extensive documentation of the exhibited works, the publication searches to translate Hostettler’s specific artistic approach into a book. According to the title “Proofs”, the book consists of deconstructed and rearranged picture details sourced from the artists documentation archive.

Don't Talk to Strangers

Don’t Talk to Strangers collects the traces and thoughts of 2 exhibitions in New York and Zurich that were organized in private rooms around the two cities. It contains mail traffic between the hosts and the artists, reflections on exhibiting art at home as well as encounters between the visitors and the hosts. The cover shows a replica of a popular design from a doormat which says “Come in / Go away”

Herrliche Zeiten

Identity for an exhibition called “Glorious Times” in Zug, a small city in Switzerland. A number of artistic positions dealing with the special reputation of Zug were spread all over the city. The accompanying Materials for the exhibition were entirely sourced from local media, used to create a cloud of images and text fragments reflecting a common feeling of confidence and discomfort at the same time.

A series of 3 silkscreened A1-posters on the theme of «GTL». It stands for «Gym, Tan, Laundry», a process of staying fresh and mint coined by the eloquent Mike «The Situation» Sorrentino from MTV’s Jersey Shore: «You gotta GTL everyday to make sure you’re looking your best bro. If your shirt looks bad it makes the whole product look bad.» In addition, the laundry figure was printed in white on a white shirt.

Claire Vague

Claire Vague

Claire Vague is a fashion label and art platform. The name refers to Jean Luc Godard’s movie «La Chinoise», where the sentence «il faut confronter les idées vagues avec des images claires» appears written on a wall. The custom made font «Claire» is inspired by Godard’s handwritten Antique Olive versions.
The website is split up in two parts: one side presents the «wardrobe», the other introduces the artists featured in the exhibitions.

ATLAS is a Zurich based graphic design studio founded in 2011 by Martin Andereggen, Claudio Gasser and Jonas Wandeler. We work for clients in both commercial and cultural fields. Our services include all kind of printed and digital matter such as publications, identities, posters or websites.

Besides that we teach at ZHdK (Zurich) and écal (Lausanne), give workshops, lectures and pursue self-initiated projects as well as collaborations on a regular basis.
